New Favorite Rig

Thanks to Karl and Kevan, I've got a new favorite. SX on a 8' Shimano Teramer 12-25lb. It's perfect. I'd like to say I killed a 40lb Yellow Fin Tuna on it but all it's seen so far is big ass Mackeral and a few dink bass. I did have a few nasty spectra backlashes though. My right thumb is a little raw too . I worked the iron with it for two days and it'll fling a jig. The distance got better and better as I got used to the rig. Even with the drag set at 7.5 lbs, there was no resistance at the handle. I did back it back to 5.5 lbs though, I always fish at 25% at strike.

Thanks guys! Karl, I hope that JX works as well for you.

Nice Dayle. My sx is on a Seeker Blue 8 foot - cut to 7.5 inshore 809.
I'm done with spectra, it's a pain in the ass.

Re: New Favorite Rig

What's expensive, the SX?

I'm one of the resident cheap bastards here. Considering what you are getting, that's a heck of a deal. The two speeds are pricey though (MX and up).

Re: New Favorite Rig

My favorite rig is a Sx as well and it is matched on a Calstar 800XLH. Also, I got to see the SX 2 speed today and its pretty bad ass.

Re: New Favorite Rig

Calico caught a 50# Yellow Fin Tuna at the rocks on his SX... The left side plate was warm, but he took his time and cranked that fucker in. Was fun to watch. Here's a pic.

I didn't have the balls to do it on mine, but I got a 50# on my MXJ 6/3 on the 20#.

Was fun.

Re: New Favorite Rig

The SX can handle osme quality fish. I caught a 40+ bluefin on mine last year and it was quite fun. It took a little too long though lol.

It's not that I don't believe you, but do you have a pic, an observer with a camera, the rocks in the background, and a BD shirt on while pulling on the fish?

I thought not... Ron wins all the Avet reels for the next 6 months!

Good on you dude. 40# Blue Fin Tuna pulls like a mother. Pics next time right?
