Re: Magging an Avet

I have 8 of them and I magged them all. It's pretty easy. The one thing I did differently was during the test period I used Krazy Glue to hold them in until I got the right magnetic influence, once done with the testing you can just give them a "pop" with the screwdriver and they come off clean and ready for 5 minute epoxy.

Re: Magging an Avet

Dont mag an Avet. Do not mag an avet. By doing so you take away its best quality, its freespool. Personally, I hate magged Avets. I fished one and really did not like it.

Re: Magging an Avet

I beg to differ with that opinion. If done correctly, I think it's great. No, the spool won't spin for 45-60 seconds when you mag it but the smooth freespooling attributes of the reel are still there at slow rpms.

To each his own and if you do it and don't like it, it's a real quick fix to pop the magnets off even when epoxied.

I'm not sure I understand this magging thing. Is it for people who don't know how to cast or is there another advantage?

Pretty much. It limits the spool rotation to prevent 'professional overruns'. I'd say just practice casting and problem solved

So you can fly line a bait and drink a beer?

Practice casting and you'll be fine with the Avet's. IMHO, the best thing about the Avet's is the free spool, but to each his own...

This is why I would not mag an Avet. All you need to do is practice, practice, practice. Once you have gotten your thumb control down you will be able to cast an Avet a mile.

Re: Magging an Avet

Good thumb and properly adjust cast control and its no problem especially the SX is so small and so easy to control.

I had a friend of mine cast mine and she said it was much easier than anything she owned and she is still learning. I dont think its really necessary.
