lx 4.6 Feedback

I'am thinking about picking up an Avet lx 4.6 and wanted to get some feedback on the reel before I buy it. I was thinking about filling it with 65# jb and topping it of with 50# top shot. So if anyone reads this and knows how it fishes, freespool, drag and reliability please let me know. Thanks

Re: lx 4.6 Feedback

It's a great reel for 40 or 50 pound. Freespools great out of the box and has plenty of drag.

Now, depending on your application, it might not be the best reel. I use mine for bait fishing and as a light line troller. IMHO, it's not a jig reel as it takes too much to get the line back on the spool (IE it's wide). I like the JX 2-speed for that application.

All around however, it's an excellent reel for Yellow Fin Tuna and Blue Fin Tuna up to 100#'s. One of the Avet owners just caught a 650# Blue Marlin in 43 minutes with this reel.

Re: lx 4.6 Feedback

No problem at all... I fish P-Line CXX 30# (short top shot for bottom critters, I'll put the 100 yard top back on for our charter on the 19th) on mine and that is like 50#. The JX and the JX 6/3 are great reels. The JX 6/3 is my personal favorite reel to fish on a 700M.

Re: lx 4.6 Feedback

I'll chime in while you are waiting for Mark. JX is nicer to fish with. Capacity with 65lb spectra and a topshot is massive.

Re: lx 4.6 Feedback

JX, unless I knew there was a chance that there was a whopper out there waiting to spool my ass.

You can't go wrong with either reel, but if you're fishing locally the JX is the ticket.

Re: lx 4.6 Feedback

Ive got the LX and I really like it. It casts great and has a lot of cranking power. The line capacity is impressive and I dont expect to get spooled any time soon lol. The reel is very wide but I still really like it.
