Different dogs on an MXL 2speed

Check it out.
The blue mx2speed is mine. It's newer than the silver MX2speed which is my friend's reel that was purchased as soon as they were released. Notice the difference in the dog and sprin assembly.

IMHO, I prefer mine over Neil's dog. Neil's dog will eventually wear and then it will not go back into the lock position. I may inquire about using the other dog cam to add some redundancy, or upgrade to the assembly.

The only I do not like about my assembly if it seems a bit too complicated and may prove to be too frail for a reel. I'll see

Re: Different dogs on an MXL 2speed

When the MXL6/4 first came out, we tried using a double dog and a single dog. The problem was the doulble creating to much load on the grind, and the single at times pop out. (especially when you were putting line on.)
Harry designed a unique system inwhich the dog is free on the winding put drops down with load. We had no problems with this system and we use it on the JX6/3 & Lx6/3 models.
You can have your friend send his reel back to Avet and we will upgrade his dog system at no charge. If you have anymore questions, feel free to post or email me.

Now that's what I call service.

Thanks Rick. I'm in the process of "detailing" the older MXL2SP. I may send it anyway since my friend is having a kid now... he won't need it... but I could use it

Why not use the instant anti-reverse stuff? Quiet and smooth.

Re: Different dogs on an MXL 2speed

You know, like the Accurates. Instead of having the clicking of the anti-reverse dog and the gaps between where they catch, the handle does not go backwards at all. No noise either. I was hoping my new MXL was going to have it. I thought it was part of the upgrade on the newer reels.
