| Re: Avet Reels and Earth Magnets
I am one of those east coaster, that loves nothing more than throwing 8oz & bait 125-150 yards.
Tourny guys say "If you have to thumb a reel you are losing distance" but I don't own a magged reel, but do have several tricked out CT framed abu's. You can usually control a reel by putting thicker oil in the bearings. 3 to 1 oil sewing machinge oil to slow the down vs. Quatuam hot sauce or rocket fuel to speed them up. and those abu's have breakblocks, I usually just leave 1 in. The tourny guys have ajustable magged reels where they usually have the mag on 50% during the loading and initial takeoff, but soon back off to 0% mags for most of the cast and splashdown.
If I were you, put a heavy oil in the bearings and go fishing, see how it cast. At the end of the day if you backlash 1 out of 3 cast, then temp. glue one magnet, then go fishing again. You want to find that edge where a 25 mph gust of wind will make you backlash but a 10mph gust won't. A smooth delivery or lack of is where 90% of the backlashes occur. If you are regularly are backlashing while the lure is on the way down, then put heavy oil and then after that maybe a mag and light oil. If you are backlashing at takeoff, practice more!
