Seeker Black Steel 50# rod for Pro EX 30W?

I'm thinking of mounting my new Avet Pro EX 30W reel on a Seeker Black Steel G 660H AR (rated foir 30#-60# line). Too light? or about right? or...would you recommend another rod?

Thanks for your comments in advance...

what are you targeting over there?
that's a mighty reel you got, so i'd say a way stiffer rod..

i got my EXW 4/02 on a 6463 XXH and i use it to fish 80-130#
the EX30W is crazy strong and more of a 80-150# reel for west coast style tuna fishing

Well...

I have to admit that I'm a relative newbie....but I hope to eventually use my reel and rod for Yellow Fin Tuna in the Gulf....I'm guessing around 75 to 150 lb. range. (I know that I could get lucky one day and hammer a > 200 pounder.

The fact is...I'm still trying to shorten my learning curve and get as much info as possible. Thanks for the info!

Are there other rods that I should be considering??

Your reel was designed to fish 400 yards 135# spectra, with a 100 yard topshot of 80# mono, or 100# mono. A Calstar 760H would be an "off the rack" rod matched to that reel, or a Seeker 6463XXXH.

Richard, that rod sounds a little light even for 60lb.6465H minimum or XH, provided you can go with glass. 765M would be a good choice for the Graphite. All these are obviously CalStars and are 6'6''.

I'm with you on fishing 60lb on the thing. I'll post when I get it but for my 30 (FH Show) I plan on either 60 or 80lb. I don't think I'll need the massive capacity so I'll probably spool up 135 Spectra in case I do put on a 100lb topshot.

Re: Seeker Black Steel 50# rod for Pro EX 30W?

Thanks everyone for the input....just ordered the Seeker 6463XXH for my Pro EX 30W...probably a good match for my current fishing range. If I ever decide to go on a BIG tuna trip...or even to Mexico for billfish...I'll beef it up with rod and reel and do it like it's supposed to be done. I almost feel that I'm rigging up a bit heavy for what my "typical" day to day fishing will be this Summer. If I get hooked...(pun intended)...then I'll beef up everything...

When asking about a rod, it's good to let everybody know where you'e fishing, what you're targeting, and the reel you're using. You did all that, but another thing is what lb test line you want to use. As I understand it the Pro 30 puts out hella drag and can be used with 100 and 130 lb no problem. What lb test do you intend to fish?

I bought 600 yds of Jerry Brown 130# hollow braid. I plan on using a top of about 100 yds of 80# mono. I think I'm going to have a pretty good setup when all is said and done. Thanks everyone for the input.
