i absolutely love the new TiagraA handles... nice and gripy
i hated my Avet aluminium handles and knew it was going to be a problem for me and my dad on our cow trip.. so i went to Home Depot and got a couple pairs of those rubberized gloves and cut the fingertips off..
-the leftside glove was for winding the spectra as tight as possible when flylining.. with a short topshot you're in and out of spectra every bait and keeping the spectra wound tight is important.. winding spectra tight with bare fingers = band aids
-the rightside glove was to grip the slippery aluminium handle.. in the hot and humid conditions, slippery dines and macks, next thing you know you're wasting energy trying to grip your handle instead of just pushing and pulling the handle..
those rubberized cheap gloves really gripped the sides of the reel, spool and handle...better than the bluerunner gloves we also had..
my dad showing off those cheapy rubber gloves-
well.... some epoxy and scrap hypalon and you got a new improved Avet handle..
feels like a big ProGear handle, nice and full of grip..
i used the thick dense hypalon that Squidco sells.. i figure these dense hypalon didn't get chewed up by the rail and should be able to withstand the demands of being on the handles...
here you go.. new homemade upgraded handle..
super easy to do...
-take the handle apart
-rodbuilder's epoxy on the inside on the hypalon
-heat gun to warm up the hypalon so it stretches easier
-slip it on
-use one of those hole bits to drill out the hypalon
BUT.... the key is to let the epoxy cure before you drill out the hole.. keeps the hypalon from stretching after you cut the hole out.. the epoxy sets the hypalon in the stretched position..(the cut hole won't grow on you this way)
-put the handle back together..
done...
i'll give some feedback if i can get on this next 10 day trip on the Q..
hopefully i can get rid of these rightside gloves!
i know RickO is on his Avet LR trip so he cannot reply, but this is not to dis Avet.. i'm not affliated, just showing an idea i had and i'm hoping it will work out for me..
