Avet Gurus...

I was always put off the Avets by the gorilla detents at the freespool lever position and the seeming on/off nature of the drag.

The ones at the Ho Show seemed much more civilized. Has Avet fiddled with the detents & cam profiles?

Do Avets have the Bellevilles on the spool spindles like other lever drags. Avet's big deal was always the powerful drags. Maybe every other Avet I handled was set up for MAX drag?

A little to technical for me, what I do know is that since my first experience with an Avet three years ago it seems that each new year brings design impotents: sealed vs open bearings, more two speed models, etc.. I think they listen to people and make design changes each year. Sitting here I checked the freespool detent between my 2003 SX and my 2004 MX and the older reel definitely takes more pressure to get it where it needs to go. I always thought the thing with Avet was the incredible freespool. I was over at bushmans house yesterday and we were testing his new LX. got the spool to spin for 2min 30sec+ by pull starting with a 2ft piece of line.

You would think I was one of their salesmen. Are you going to the rod building class at Orcas house tomorrow? I have four different size Avets made over the past three years if you want to compare.

Avet has changed their design with the advent of the TRX - Quad. It is a totally unique design and one of the features is that you can adjust the drag while the drag is engaged. I think that they are the only reel on the market that can do that.

Due to the design, there is almost no pressure on the lever as you push it forward to increase the drag.

I am not a saleman for Avet but they do sponsor the radio show. I would still be a fan if they did not.

BD should do a factory tour. It's an eyeopener. All we need is 25 - 30 and they will set up a private tour with food and snacks and pro staff presentations.

Seeing as I and a few other BD guys missed the Avet tour on 26 Feb, I think it'd be great to get a group to head up there for a tour.

Rick seemed like a great guy and Jeff was cool at the show! I know I can get 5-6 guys to join up...
Maybe open this to the ST board also!!!! Good reason for some cerveza and checkin new gear!!!

Set a date

I just talked to Avet and we need to give them a date and let them know how many will sign up. Saturday is best. They are really busy with production right now. We will need at least 12 and up to 25. The more that want to go, the better the party. Someone want to post on ST and see if George's up for it?

I'll see if we can get some factory discounts but that's a touchy subject due to tackle store objections to the factory undercutting prices.

Dude,

Translator for Harry. He talks fine...

I was on the February trip and it was very cool. Just remember, this is not a giveaway trip unless BD's wants to do something. It's cool to see how they are made and you can bring some reels up (I live South) to the factory to get them serviced or looked at.

The pro's show you some stuff and we got to watch a video. One thing that I would say is that I don't think that they would appreciate a bunch of drunk people showing up. My buddies and I held off until we made it back down south. They put out a good spread and there's more than enough for everyone to eat.

They let a bunch of the staff go at 2 PM so, if you have reels that you want checked out get there a little early and give them to Rick (if he's there) or to Sarkis.

A great company and American Made. Well worth the trip from SD.
