What to fill an avet jx with?

Any suggestions on how i should fill an avet jx 4.1? Was thinking of maybe using it for casting iron or just multi purpose type route. Have considered dropping the coin to go spectra as well. Recomendations on top and undershot size weight length etcetera?

thanks
brian

Thats a 30# reel... I'd go with 65# backing and a 50-100 yd topshot of your favortie 30# mono.

My JX is filled like what SurfDoc said. 60# spectra. Top shot of 40# Fuck the p-line. I watched a $20 squid jig go byebye using that over rated expensive stuff. ANDE PINK gayz: rules. Ok Forget it. Spectra and what ever top shot you want.

The diameter on the spectra is smaller than mono, 80lb spectra has the diameter of 25lb mono.

Spectra weighs about 1/4 as much as mono.

Spectra lasts considerably longer than mono and will save you money because you wont have to keep re-lining.

As far as the fluorocarbon goes, the fish cant see it so you get more bites. I'll admit that I'm not as good a fisherman as some of the people I take out on my boat because of my inexperience offshore fishing (5 years vs. 30 years). But those old salts refuse to change and are still using mono. I catch just as many fish as them however, because I get bit more often, and I'm convinced that it's because of the fluorocarbon. I wish they had this stuff when I was a kid trout fishing in Missouri. It will also give you the little bit of stretch you need that spectra doesn't have.

One word of caution though, both of these lines handle differently than mono and it takes a little getting used to.
