New HX Raptor almost done!

Here we go again, I loved the SX Raptor, and the HX will be out in about 2 weeks. That means I'll get my hands on one in about 3 weeks.
I'm trying to imagine using a reel the same size and weight as a standard HX, with 30# of drag at strike, and 55# at full. Should hold 400 yards of 100# JB hollow, with 100 yards of 60# mono.
Combined with a Phenix Black Diamond, it should be the smallest, lightest, WMD outfit ever, and cast a sardine like a Newell!

With the beefed up drag will you fish heavier line on it. Say 100lb or 130lb test? If not why not?

You could fish 100# line with no problem, especially if you're fishing 200# tuna. Personally, I'll use it for 60-80# line.
My "guess" is, it'll cost $519.99 [just a guess].

I get mine at The Longfin, in Orange, Ca., there are a lot of dealers in Ca., you can call Phenix @ 1-877-274-3649 to find a dealer near you.

and cast a sardine like a Newell!

Good luck with that. Unfortunately the MC causes the spool to slow down considerably due to the magnets. Freespool is not the same as the standard versions.

Please...Take the frickin magnet out if it bothers you that much....I beleive if it saves a person from making a few backlashes and enhances their fishing experiance then its a dam good thing for them. Bitch bitch moan moan is all you guys can do anymore....you are starting to sound like you work at the White House with that bunch of pissin and moanin fools

So how long will it be before we see a tutorial on "HOW TO REMOVE THE MAGNETS FROM AN AVET MC?"

Removing the magnet is easy.

#1. Remove the mounting screws on the face plate of the reel. The whole reel assembly with the spool will slide out of the body in one piece. Set it aside, being careful not to move the lever or rotate the main shaft...this will allow you to just slide it back together easily later.

#2. Loosen the small allen screw on the MC adjustment knob on the side of the body. With the allen wrench still in the screw and a finger on top of the knob, use the allen wrench to lift the knob off of the shaft. Be careful not to fling the knob across the room with the allen wrench when it lets loose. You may have to wiggle it a bit as you lift, as it is a snug fit onto the shaft. Note there is a tiny ball and spring under the knob..it wont fly out, but watch for it so it doesnt drop and get lost.

#3. Remove the white nylon washer and push the mag assembly out of the square hole in the body.

#4. Now that the mag assembly is out, simply push the shaft and the round magnet out of the black housing. The two " [ " shaped metal pieces that are screwed to the black housing are non magnetic and dont need to be removed.

At this point there are 2 options:
A: Request a "dummy" replacement shaft without the mags direct from Avet. This will give you the option to replace the original mag later on if you choose to.
B: Pry the mags from the cup at the end of the shaft. Use this option only if you are sure you dont want to restore the mag function later, or you are willing to purchase a replacement mag/shaft assembly later on.

#5. Slide the empty "dummy" shaft back into the housing.

#6 Slide the housing back into the square hole in the reel body. It should snap into place.

#7 Rotate the shaft so the flat side faces the "1" on the setting dial engraved on the body.

#8 Place the small spring, and then the ball in the hole opposite the small pin. Replace the white nylon washer with the larger notch on the ball side, and the smaller notch over the pin.

#9 With your finger behind the mag housing to hold it in place, position the knob over the shaft with the allen screw pointing to the "1" on the engraved setting dial, push it onto the shaft, and tighten the allen screw. Make sure the shaft is all the way into the knob, and that the mag housing is seated against the inside of the body to keep it from rubbing the spool. If not, slightly loosen the allen screw and pinch the two together and re-tighten.

#10. Slide the reel and spool back into the body. Note the cross pin in the end of the main shaft and the slot it fits into inside the body. Install the face plate screws and tighten. BAM! Your reel is now de-magnetized.

Better yet, I'll swap you my non-magnet frames and take your MC frames. Deal?

Sounds to me like you're bringing a knife to a gun fight if you really plan on using it for "fishing 200# tuna." By you, I don't mean you Rex. Just that for fishing 100 lb line, the better reel choice in an Avet seems like it would be a 30 size reel, Pro EX 30/2. Even at that, you're pushing it on bigger tuna. When you fish those cows, the 50 size reel should be your go to.
