As a side note...I stated earlier an option could be to pry the round magnet from the cup. Well, easier said than done! LMAO! When I got to work today I figured id better actually try to pry one out, it wasn't easy. The glue holds even better than we thought. In fact I think I invented a new cuss word in the process. Smacking the magnet with a center punch and hammer was effective at removing it, it just shattered into little pieces. But, its tricky to do without tweaking the shaft and cup. Best way, just a little heat and they come right out. Dropping it in boiling water works great, as well as heating up with a lighter.

I am curious why there isn't a setting on the mag reels that virtually eliminates the effect the magnets have on casting. Seems like that would be an obvious need. Maybe its too difficult to do technically?

What's the word on the HX raptor now? Any idea where to get these on the first day or two they are available? I might want to have one before a trip on the 14th.

If you only take 1 magnet out, do you get better free spool with some magnetic braking?

Yes, you will get half of the braking throughout the adjustment range. The trick is gluing just one single mag into the cup without it coming out. One solution would be to remove the magnets, kill one of them by heating the hell out of it, and gluing them both back in. That should reduce it by half and still have adjustment using only one field amplifier. Not sure if the dead mag will act as an amplifier next to the live mag or not..or if it will re-magnetize. Were working on a simpler solution here at the factory that will allow a simple retrofit to reduce the mag effect on existing reels.
