Does 900 yds of 100lb on a 30w sound right?

Well, I think its 750 of 100# JB with about 150 of 130# JB spliced on top. Does that seem right? I know I originally had the 750 spooled up originally, but I don't remember if I cut some out or not. I just want to make sure I'm not crazy thinking I have 900 yds of line on an Avet pro 30w. Its JB 100, so the breaking stength is like 130, so plenty for cow fishing I think.

1st off, 100# hollow breaks at 111#. Yes, it is possible to get that much line on. If you ever respool, or decide to take that hundred pound off and replace with 130# since it is a wide reel, it will cost considerably less money. You should get 650-700 yards of 130# on a 30W.

I suspect you may have cut some out. You should be around 800yds max capacity of 100# JB for that reel, so 750 of 100# can't be topped with 150 more of 130#.
The Accurate website has a great line capacity calculator under the support heading.

I like your thinking though. Nothing says "no worries here" like having a LOT of line available.

Thanks for the tips guys. I couldn't believe there was that much line, but why not. I was thinking I needed to get an SDS, but maybe not. I think since I already have the 100 on 30w, that I''ll keep it there since I probably won't be going over 35# of drag anyway, until the very end of the fight, right? And having the 130 for the end of the fight should help too. Last year I just had the straight 100# and no problems (I had 200 spliced in, but it got all tangled up and we had to cut it out).

As for the breaking stength, 111# sounds good to me. Although on 360tuna.com, there is a guy over there that does extensive testing (pametfisher) that says the JB 100# breaks at over 120#. I'm not going to worry about it. 111# seems good enough, especially since there are no knots except for the hook. Thanks!

I had Basil put 600 yds of 100# hollow on mine, with a 100yd 80# Momoi Diamond w/o leader on my Avet 30W and it has a little room left over.

I just had my 30W and SDS spooled with 130lb Izor to the max along with 25 yards of 130 Izor XXX and it was very close between the two. 600yards
