YT vs. JX

Here is a photo me & a nicer Yellowtail caught on the surface iron aboard the Royal Star Oct 3-13 trip.

I was using a an Avet JX 6/3 loaded w/ 40# p-line CXX paired w/ a Calstar 90J ( rolled myself )

10/11/09, We were fishing @ Isla Cedros, just out from the salt works. The jig was a minty green & white Tady 45.

We rolled into the area & Capt Brian said thre were some nice ones around. I dropped in a yoyo jig & a couple of fat ones rocketed out from under the boat chasing it. I'd been wanting to get one of these larger ones on surface Iron so I quickly switched over to the long rod, a couple casts later it was game on, a couple minutes later it was game over for this guy.

Sean of the RS grabbed a long rod & hooked this guys bigger brother a minute later !!

Good times & good fishing !! Cheers, Kyle Lambie

My wife and I headed out this morning to do a little freshwater fishing in the Tennessee river, Did I mention it was cold? 38 degrees with a steady wind.

The day started off slow, the fish just werent interested, we were targeting stripers and blue catfish.
After changing spots a couple times we decided on one final move, I baited the hooks dropped the lines and the wait began.
My wife was busy playing with my new raptor, when her rod which was currently in a rod holder doubled over. I was certain it was snagged but I was wrong, it took quite a while to get the fish close to the boat, he was hell bent on not being landed today but her little pink Avet SX winched the beast on in.
When all was said and done she had landed her personal best 25 lb blue catfish, though not a monster it was definetly the best time i've had fishing in a long time.
The smile on her face made me forget all about the fact I didnt catch a single fish today.
10/25/09
Now she wants a pink Raptor too !! lol
Reel - Pink Avet SX 5.3
Line - 20 lb Flight Pink Mono
Rod - Custom 7' Pink rod
Tight Lines...Brandon & Gina Bingaman

Avet JX 2 speed

This albacore weighed 30 pounds and was taken by Ryan (age 15) on the Avet JX in the photo on 10/17/2009. He used a 2 ounce sinker to catch the slug. We were aboard our boat, Triggerfish, fishing about 71 miles from Point Loma at the Mushroom Bank.

Way to go Ryan!

The JX is the favored reel aboard our vessel for fishing 40# line with spectra backing. It makes short work of even the most stubborn fish.

And here's a photo of a dorado taken on the MXJ by brother Frank. The MXJ loaded with 25# line and spectra made short work of this fish! It's Frank's "go-to" reel for offshore fishing. Fish was taken on a live sardine fished on a kelp near the 230 spot on 10-2-09 aboard our boat, Triggerfish.

I just got back from a 10-day trip aboard Red Rooster III from 10/07/09 to 10/17/09 where we fished at Alijos Rocks, The Ridge, and Cedros Island. I caught my limit of Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail, and Dorado. I also took third place jackpot honors for the trip catching this 83.7 lb. Yellow Fin Tuna at Alijos Rocks while using a sardine on an Avet LX 6/3 loaded with 50# Seaguar Floro, 50# Izor Clear mono, and 65# Izor spectra on a Seeker 6463H rod and a Hayabusa 2/0 circle hook. I also attached photos of a Mahi and a Yellowtail that were also caught on Avet reels. The key to getting bit at the Rocks was finding a hot bait that wanted to swim a long distance because the fish were biting after a long soak. All that I used on this trip was my Avet reels including a Pro EX 30W, 3 LX's, JX, and MXJ and they really helped pull in the bigger fish.

Good fishing,

Colin Sarfeh

MXJ 2 speed albie

Here's an albacore I caught on 25# test and a sardine out on the Mushroom on 10-26-2009 (yesterday) aboard our boat, Triggerfish.

An AVET MXJ matched with a Calstar 270 rod with 25 pound test and spectra backing is our bread and butter outfit. Complete with an owner ringed hook and you're ready to do battle on the local scene.

My son Hayden saved enough $$ to purchase his first Avet MXL and it arrived in time to fish this past weekend (10/23). We bounceball a lot and headed a little North of Santa Barbara. He was lucky enough to hookup first and landed this nice 33 inch, 14.75# flatty. What a great way to break in his virgin reel!! He did a great job fighting the fish applying pressure in a steady manner and gave it drag when needed. The reel is matched up to a 7' Seeker American Series rod and is loaded with 25# mono with a 50# topshot of spectra. We cant wait to go out again this weekend for more fun!!

Avet lx with cast control ,80lb jerry brown, 80lb seagur floro and calstar 410H
The fish was caught 10-10-09

We had just started the chunk line and deployed a couple live cabies when my reel starts screeming and this nice dodo put on a great ariel display.Took me around the boat twice before he met the gaff. The fish was pretty skinny for its length I think it was at the end of its growth cycle and was loosing weight fast.It put up a serious fight though.

These beauties were picked up on a five day with the APOLLO. My HX worked like a dream. I had it spooled with JB #80 hollow core just before the trip and then I spliced on a 100 foot #50 top shot of mono and finished it off with a 6 foot flouro leader. The two fish you see me with in the photos were caught with the addition of a 1 ounce egg weight sliding on the mono. The Yellow fin was an 80 pounder that took the bait just as the sun was going down. We had been fishing for yellow tail (hence the egg weight) when a large school of yellow fin started hitting our chum. Most of the guys abandone the egg weight set up but I am glad that I left mine on! The way the fish was thumping on the rod and making these crazy runs no one was sure if it was a tuna or a huge yellow tail. Then on the fishes last run by the back of the boat she burst out sideways away from the boat and streaked across the surface giving us all a glimpse of her entire side about 30 ft off the bow. Then she made one last dive under and around the boat before we landed her in the ending twilight. Definately a memorable fish.
The next morning the Capt moved us over to our last fishing spot for the trip and as soon as I got my bait in the water and it had moved about 100 ft from the boat the yellow fin in the other photo struck and started the day off just right. The YF in question didn't fight near as hard as the Ahi the night before but it certainly put me in a great mood for the rest of the day!
All in all I caught 560 lbs of whole fish that trip. I was able to can up 6 cases, my smoker was busy for two days and my freezer is once again full and ready for a winter/spring of fine dining.
Hats off to the Capt and Crew of the APOLLO. We had a great trip!
