| Season is over
I hope everyone had a good season. This is my first year using spectra line , and after washing my reel and cleaning it to put it away for the season i noticed mildew smell on my line . Does anyone know how to clean spectra line and not have to put new line on in next year ?
i payed about 50 bucks to get it lined

You can probably get someone at a local tackle shop to strip the spectra, wash it and then respool it for a small fee. The other option is to do it yourslf.

Just by a Swifty Spectra Wash kit that goes on your drill motor. Spool the Spectra on that, throw it in the toilet with soap, slosh it around, flush it several times to rinse it, let it dry, spool it back on. http://www.charkbait.com/cs/cshL_Swifty.htm

You have to either go from the Swifty to a secondary reel that you can put drag on to get it on the primary reel, or go from the Swifty to an empty mono spool and then back on the primary reel.
And the "season" is just starting...

We've got those Swifty spools at my shop. The guys love them! Do put the line on another spool after cleaning like the other guys said here. Ya have to get it back on your reel very tightly.
Bobby~

Way to much time, energy and expense for me. Buying the Swifty spools, drill and line winder is just to much for me. You may want to outsource this one.

My fields are flooded and the Specks are bombing my rice as we speak. I still have 600 decoys to get out....I'm chasing Albacore on Thursday, maybe Friday, and maybe Saturday. We'll be fishing and shooting ducks and Geese until one gives up or a season closes!

Still workin for me! | Lets just hope your spools aren't heavily corroded Todd.
Not saying they will be, just saying, lets hope they're not. Spectra is alot differnt than mono..... the stuff is like a sponge when it comes to holding water.
Just curious.... has anyone on here experienced serious corrosion on their spools when taking off old spectra?
