Harry, Sarkis, and our sales rep Ben intercepted the reel as soon as it came in..and took care of it before it came to me in the service dept, before this was even posted originally. I was told we received the reel late last week. I dont know how long the dealer had the reel before we got it. Yes a week is a little longer than we normally turn around repairs, usually a day or two from the time we receive them. Even so..a week to a week and a half isnt totally ureasonable, although it isnt the norm.
Maybe I miss read the first post but I thought it said Avet worked on it three times prior to this one each time telling him it was fixed? In my trade they call that a buy back. Why is a week necessary to fix a reel, are there that many reels to warranty repair? Your customer is happy and that is what matters.

Yep, those will work...as well as that spongy tacky colored finger tape, and the best is that thick cloth hockey tape. Just about anything grippy and water rot resistant that will grip the spool and give a semi soft substrate for the line to dig into and grip. Masking tape will work in a pinch, but tends to turn to a mushy gooey mess in a short time soaking in wet line for days on end.

To be fair, he did the right route the first time and his problem wasnt solved. The real problem simply wasnt caught by the shop that wound the line, himself and Avet. I see his frustration..his reel didnt work even after it was fixed. Mistakes were made..it happens. All 3 parties learned from it I think.
No need to call out the shop that wound the line, Chad stated that as soon as he told the shop that they responded to his satisfaction.

Chad stated that he informed the shop when his reel arrived there today and he picked it up. I know the shop..and im certain they will take appropriate action.

Sad and funny at the same time, to read this. Sad, because the problem caused such distress and shed a false impression on a good reel - good, because the solution was so simple. Funny, 'cause i have anglers send in their reels due to "faulty drags" and the issue is just the same. Extremely funny: one of the guys with probs was a pro fishing guide.

We all learn .. every day

Admittedly, it's damn hard to tell a slipping line pack - but a dot of a marker on the spool always helps.

yeah shit down avet's throat but don't let other people know who can't spool a reel proper? i work at a tackle shop name them so other's don't suffer the same fate. too much "oh that's good" going out there and the customer suffer's that is not cool. we ALL spend hard earned cash on our addiction so settling for it is not helping anyone. glad the problem is solved you will love that reel!

I guess you could blame the store salesperson/Avet for not letting you know bout the slippage of spectra on the arbor? I woulda gotten p/o'd also, BRO...at myself though. You gotta fullly research a new reel purchase especially one that carries a hefty price tag.
How old are you guy? Not much experience buying/dealing with retailers eh?

Oh well live and learn/don't forget!

tape is not a problem. especially the coband type. Mono retains water, spectra doesn't. One reason for using spectra, less changing of line. Think about it, eh?

I used to use a mono backer, but saw an interesting point. IF you get down near the mono with high drags, the spectra/braid may slip under/inbetween the mono. The mono prevents the braid from slipping on the reel, but what prevents the braid from slipping under the mono? Now I use electrical tape and leave a long tag end over the electrical tape, and make sure I wrap over it with a lot of tension to lock the tag end down. Working so far!!

Any shop can have a brain fart moment and mess up spooling a reel. I had that happen when I have my 50W spooled with 130# hollow; it was spongy with little tension on it. I sent it to BHP for repacking, loop the end, and several topshots I made a rig to spool braid myself using a large older reel as my tensioner, works great! Packed nice and tight, no give to it! I'm working on a levelwind attachment now for it!

When I called Avet about a drag isue the woman who answered the phone asked me a few questions first. One of which was was I sure the line wasn't slipping on the spool. Another was is the drag greased. After we ran through some of the obvious (to her atleast) potential issues she connected me to a technician. Some more troubleshooting with no positive result led to sending the reel in for inspection. I sent it overnight on Tuesday. I had it back Thursday with a new female cam and perfect operation. For free too. I guess you could call that good customer service. The next reel I will be adding to my Avet arsenal is the JX Raptor. I can't wait for that bad boy.
