I wonder how long it would have taken them if you didn't come on a public forum talking about it? What happend to your reel happens alot and it is usually a pretty easy thing to diag, I'm suprised the shop you took it to didn't know what was going on. Who put your spectra on?

Yeah I would like to know as well who spooled ur reel. If it was the shop I would be doing some serious talking to them about their procedures. A reputable shop wouldn't do that.

Now that you have it dialed in I am sure you will really get to appreciate what a nice reel you have. Glad you got the problem resolved to your satisfaction.

Who put your spectra on? | The problem had already been solved and the reel shipped by the time I even saw this post. I investigated today as soon as I got the reply PM with the info from Chad. Harry, Sarkis, and our sales rep Ben intercepted the reel as soon as it came in..and took care of it before it came to me in the service dept, before this was even posted originally. I was told we received the reel late last week. I dont know how long the dealer had the reel before we got it. Yes a week is a little longer than we normally turn around repairs, usually a day or two from the time we receive them. Even so..a week to a week and a half isnt totally ureasonable, although it isnt the norm.

Seems like since the problem's been fixed it's all good. Most important thing is for the owner of the reel and especially the Avet folks to give this feedback to the shop that spooled up the reel so this does not happen again.

I've been told that I could use electrical tape or even bandage tape directly on the spool for braid backing. Is this true, or is there a better material to use?

My apologies that it wasnt discovered the 1st time around. If I would have seen the reel the 1st time it came in I probably would have caught it...only because Ive had it happen to me in the past. If it hadnt happened to me I probably wouldnt have caught it either. The service tech that saw your reel the 1st time is a stellar mechanic...but was looking for an internal drag issue..and most likely replaced the the drag system just to make sure he covered all the bases.
