i'm gonna be a dick and just tell you to learn how to cast...i can cast everything from a shimano bass reel, to a trolling feather with a Penn 6/0 (yes, it can be done)...but this all took years of practice. it's just like driving stick shift in that everybody still stalls once in a while...well i still backlash once in a while...

just be patient and learn how to adapt your thumb pressure by how your spool is acting. soon, it should just be 2nd nature

i see some weird ass casting techniques on the boat i work on. make your bait/lure do a pendulum type swing, and go wit hthe flow of it, don'tt just whip it. also, left hand goes on the bottom grip, right hand on the reel, and the rod butt under your right arm pit...sounds silly and redundant, but i see WEIRD styles of casting every day
