I rinse with the hose at the dock with lever in freespool. Let dry. Cover and put away until used again. No grease on my drags. I also go through the extensive lube and grease routine when I first buy a reel. Then again each winter.

I lock down the drags and give a liberal dousing with the hose. Will sometimes dunk them in a bucket for a few seconds. All my Avet drags are greased (courtesy of Alan Tani), which I feel allows one to dunk them in buckets, etc with relative impunity.

I would no sooner soak a reel in water than I would soak my shotgun after a day of duck hunting the Skagit or the Laguna Madre. Am I missing something here?
