On an SX I get a 2 pound difference 9#/11#, on a 50 S.D.S., I get 5 pounds difference 27#/32#. If you set it at 32# on a straight pull, and it's actually 37#, when you're toward the bottom 1/3 of the spool, you break the line, or bend a hook etc.

Put the reel on the rod, line through the guides, bend the rod like you are fighting the fish. It is imperative to know the pressure at the hook, not at the reel.

Well, worked on it again.
HX - 80 lbs braid / 60 lbs mono
GRFR 700H

Looks like I can get these numbers before the reel starts to load up.
15-16 lbs at strike
21-22 lbs at full

Send your reel to Avet, with an explanation, and let them find out what is wrong, and fix it.

I sent my LX in when it wasn't getting anymore than 9-10 at strike. They replaced a female cam. It came back able to do 21/30 with freespool, no binding and a gradual ramp up in drag rather than the stepped of 0-strike-full. I fish it at 15/24 and it gets 5 pounds at bait, perfect for setting the hook. I'm wondering if it is a new part developed through the Raptor R&D.

There are a variety of new/improved parts for most of their reels, whether they apply to your specific reel, depends on when it was made. My SX 6/4 MCR is serial #00017, and was made on 8-27-09, and yes there are already new/imjproved parts. Mine is getting a slider ball bearing, that is in a cup, won't fall out when you remove the lever.

Is the reel straight out of the box? Seems like Avets need attention once you buy them. Dry bearings and dry drag washers.

Unlike most reel companies, Avet continually improves and upgrades reels. I won't "need" to get a new slider ball bearing, but I'll get one to stop losing one every time I take the lever off. Never had a "dry" bearing in any of the Avets I've taken apart, more than 100. "Dry" drags? They're designed to be dry, but if you must have grease, go ahead and grease them. You might grease the disc brakes on your car, while you're at it.

Avet haters

I seem to notice that since there is no official Accurate site that a few guys seem to use the Avet site to bash a reel they do not have. Why?

All reels work and work best with certain fishermen. Use what you like. Improve the ones you like if needed or desire to improve and sell ones you do not like. Ebay and I are well acquainted and somebody is enjoying my old reels today.

Now, I like Avets and have a HX. It will be great once I get on the Vagabond in 2 weeks and Mike finds those big bluefin. He did it for us a few years back and we caught all you could eat 50+ pound bluefin. Any bait, any reel, any rod. Just hang one and turn the handle. Move calendar move
