Independence "Extreme Challenge", Sat. 10-03-2009 to Fri. 10-09-2009. Prizes for top 10 fish. $1000.00 gift cert for 2010 Indy trip, for top tuna, Avet 2-speed reels for next top 4 tuna, $500.00 Indy gift cert, for top yellowtail, Seeker rods for next top 3 tuna, and shirts and tackle packs for everyone on trip.
I got on this Avet trip [Rick Osaki], yesterday. In 19 days the "Raptor" gets it's first longrange "test". Should be yellowtail 30-70#, yellowfin 40-100#, maybe albacore and bluefin too. It's a limited load, and $1850.00. Seems like I should be able to win something, using the new Raptor. Full report with pictures will follow. We're doing a video too, but I don't know how to post it.

Can't wait for custom rod, special order, so I bought a new rod today, for the Raptor. It's a Phenix PSW 809 HXF, rated 20-50#. It's pure graphite and very strong. I think I'll like it with the Raptor.

Useually, the left hand reels are done after a couple hundred right hand reels are finished. This time, Avet is trying to get the HX Raptor out first, so you're probably looking at Feb./March 2010.

Oh no, bought another SX 6/4 Raptor, this time gold. #00122 has new reel foot, longer JX handle, and new ball bearing cup on lever.

Is it just the pic, or does the handle seem much further away from the sideplate than on the regular series? If so, isn't this going to be a cause for additional wobble when reeling?

The reel is only .001 inch wider, hard to measure. But, I'm only a foot away taking the photo. Makes it look like an 80.
