Brilliant!
Look at any Duel 2 speed. The drag is setup very similar, but they have 2 drag discs.

The HX Raptor should be 30# at strike, 50# at full, that's my "guess".
But it could be more, it's designed for 80-100# line.

old,it looks very nice but do you really need a raptor 2 speed for 30 lb?not hating at all just seems like overkill for 30.

It is "overkill" for fishing 30# line, but on some occasions, I use an 80# flourocarbon topshot, and then it's perfect. When using 40#, 60#, or 80# flourocarbon, attached directly to the spectra, the Raptor version is ideal. Realize that I'm a little crazy, and I have fun catching big fish on small rods and reels. I had the first production SX 6/4, three years ago, got a 63# yellowtail, and a 86# yellowfin, and that was as much fun as I've ever had fishing. A lot more fun than catching a 246# yellowfin on a 50W.

I talked to avet rep and he said it will be $100 over regular jx price. so raptor JX will probably be close to $510

Yes they are overkill in the hands of a skilled angler but they do have their place. Last year on a 7 day on the Indy my father made the treck with us. Granted he is a towering 5'4", 140 lbs soaking wet and 76 years old. Absolutely killed the yellows to 32lbs at cedros on the mxl 6/4 with 30 lb and the JX 6/3 with 40lb. With out the low gear he may never of had a chance to pull on them in high gear, he layed the rod on the rail and turned the screws. For him it made a difference in catching larger fish. He was so thrilled with the small 2 speeds he now has a full set and the Raptor will be added this week. They are much lighter and more effective than the reels we grew up fishing with and has put a renewed spirit for him to go fishing with his sons once again. This may not be the best reason for the snmall 2 speeds but its the best damn one for me.

Well, the only spectra I haven't tried is Blackwater, at $280.00 a spool, I think I'll pass on that. Looks like 3 choices, Izor 50#, Izor 65#, or JB 60# hollow. The Izor 50# will go 350 yards, 65# 300 yards, and JB 60# hollow 300 yards, with 50 yards of 30# mono. I want 60# spectra so it'll cost $40.00. That gives me 350 yards total. You can't put it on tighter, so that's maximum. A good compromise is 300 yards of 60# JB hollow, for $40.00, with 25-50 yards of 30# mono. I'm gonna go for 60# hollow and total capacity of 350 yards. That should handle anything under 200#, and have a "chance" to catch it.

If the regular JX 6/3 is $369.99 w/o MC, then the Raptor version should be $469.99. But, you won't see it till January.

I"ve had a lot of experience with Izor 50# spectra, including tuna up to 130#. So I decided to re-do the spectra on the SX Raptor, again. The only time 50# ever broke, was when I got spooled by a 200# pound tuna. Anyway, today I put on 360 yards of 50# Izor solid, with a topshot of 50 yards of 30# mono. I'm stuck on having 400 yards total, and this seems the best way to go. I'll keep the JB 60# hollow as a back-up.

Avet must be really busy with the new Raptors. I ordered SX parts for my new Raptor, last Wednesday, and they're not here yet. Luckily, I had a spare release arm spring, for a 30/50, and it works better in the SX, stronger spring. Think I'll leave it in the SX, and get 3 more.
