personally i think what your getting in the SX raptor is well well worth the money, but thats the tackle ho inside |
If the new raptor actaully performs as advertised its wll worth the money to say the least. Yeah its expensive but you know what they will sell. I was on a cod trip this winter and out of 60 reels/fourty people than were onboard there we at least 30 accurate 2 speeds. So if the avet perfoems like the accurate and priced below it will sell for sure.
Most people these days dont care about the price rather than care more that they have the newest gear. I surfish here in the NE and see POS trucks but guys have several Zeebass' or several Van staahls. Its amzing they have more money in the rodholder of the truck than the value of the truck.
It does suck for normal people like you and I that manufacturers keep upping the price but what can you do?? But .........
Back to the Avets I do hope the new line is more "smooth" I know it will not be like a shimano or daiwa but at least hope it feels more like an Accurate.

Who do I have to kill to get a JX Raptor (kinda gay name) in Blue or Gunmetal?
I just sold my LX and NEED one of these new ones.
I do hope they are in the $300 range though. At $440, they are close to the price of a 30.

SX out in September, then MXJ, MXL, JX, LX, and finally HX. Probably 6 months before they're all in the tackle stores? That's just a guess.

| lower gears, I wish....
I have AVET reels that I use here in Alaska for halibut, ling cod and other bottom fish. They almost always stay in low gear because of tides, water depth and big weights and jigs. How I wish they would make a run of HX, LX or MX reels that had lower gears. The high gear should be about 3.5 and the low gear should be about 2.5 or lower. Our bottom fishing does not require speed, just winching power. We drop straight down and reel straight up. It could be called their "Alaska Series". Probably not a big enough market.

Is the anti-reverse system the same or did they finally go to an instant anti-reverse? If the Raptor is instant put me down for a LX

Yes! Alaskans need and HX with the same gear ratios as the original EX 4 to 1 and 2 to 1.

My reel still works great, needs some work but it has never jammed or let me down, from sand bass to every tuna species under 70 lbs it's killed everything without a hitch. An AK-47 type of design that wont let you down even with poor maintinence and some failed parts, I proved that myself. Only thing I did have to do was lock tite an re-attach the backing plate since it kept coming loose after a year

Got one [being the German distributor does have some merits - as far as I know, the official sale will start soon]
I just received an SX Raptor for testing ...and even when dry-testing it, I am very impressed. Avet managed to beef up the drag with less than a handfull of additional parts and a lot of ingenuity. No noticeable side load, either.
This reel is the smallest beast I ever held in my hands.
It's definitely worth to have a close look at this new design if you are looking for a minute reel with lots of drag.

I played with one yesterday at Avet and it's super smooth, almost no load on the handle at full drag. I asked about the JX Raptor and they said it will be out around Oct.
