Sorry you did not go to the Lupe. From what I understand even though all of the boats paid their permit fees for this year. In some cases the rumor is twice once each to two different agencies. The authorities decided to close the island. Glad you got the chance to give the raptor a trial run. Hope you get to fish it more on your next trip.

Rex,

Sounds like you were using 40lb. line on the little rascal. What was your set-up on the Raptor/Phenix 809HXF and would you change anything based on this first test? Did you try any iron? Thanks for the report.

I used 360 yards 50# spectra with 60 yards of 30# Izor XXX topshot. Set drag at 12# at strike. Used 3 to 5 oz. jigs, and 2 oz. leadheads. All worked fine, sardines worked best, but there weren't any big fish, ever.
With bigger fish I'd try 40# topshot.
This is a 34# dorado, I only took one picture.
The SX Raptor and Phenix 809HXF make a perfect combination, small, light, and very strong. Jesus, the most experienced deckhand, has 5 Black Diamond rods, and said mine was the best 8 footer, he's ever used. I'm going to get 2 more 8 foot jig rods, for my HXJ's.
