For the price, you'd have the accurate on lay-away.

The HX's should start releasing around the first of the year if the rumors are correct. Not sure what the pricing will be.

I have eight Avets at present and hear this stated by various people. I have never had a problem with any of my reels being hard to crank. That goes for reels made by other manufacturers also. I believe if you have this problem it is a case of operator malfunction not the reel.

The only time I ever saw an avet that was hard to crank was when the owner had tightened down the drag knob with the lever in the full position.

That is the common cry of the far left.....they have never actualy tried fishing an Avet but continually spew out information others have posted...After 42 Avet purchases for family, friends, employees and myself I have yet to encounter a single problem with any of my reels. I have made upgrades to reels from some of my aquaintances and for a local tackle shop and find 99% of the time any problem with the reel is operater error or very poor maintence. This is not just for Avets but all reels 99% operator error, 1 % mechanical failure.

You dont have to beleive me just count them...........

Got back from Indy 6-day Avet/WON trip yesterday. First problem, can't go to Guadalupe, so we headed to Magdelena Bay. Weather was windy, big swells, and we took a long time getting there. We fished there 1/2 day Monday and 1/2 day Tuesday, caught small yellowfin, 5-25#, and small yellowtail, 5-15#. Two wahoo on troll, and a few dorado. Started back up toward Cedros, still windy/choppy crappy weather. Wednesday caught one wahoo on troll, a few yellowfin 15-35#, and yellowtail 10-35#, and 3 grouper. Thursday stopped at San Martin for 3 hours, caught some small yellowtail. Not a good 6-day trip, and most people wished we could've gone to Guadalupe.
I only used the SX Raptor/Phenix 809HXF. Got a 32# and 34# yellowfin, a 34# dorado, and 6 yellowtail, 12-25#. Not much of a challenge for the new Raptor, but I set the drag at 12# at strike, and got it over quickly.
The cast control worked beautifully on sardines, set at 2, no backlash at all.
Rich Holland took pictures and will do a write-up on 10-23-09 issue.
