In addition to trying out Raptors, I'm anxious to see how the Phenix PSW809HFX works. It has the smallest diameter [0.673"] I've ever seen, and the fastest taper, and it's extremely light. Some say, they're fragile, and prone to break/shatter, with a sharp impact. It feels like the strongest little rod I ever tried. We'll see how it holds up under extreme abuse?
On my last 8-day trip, I bought 3 Super Seekers, my friend bought one, 3 of the 4 broke guides by the end of the trip. I think the Phenix will be as tough as a composite graphite rod, but I guess we'll see.

They took the rods back, and I got a full price credit at The Longfin.

Rex,
Been following your Raptor chronicles with interest (thanks by the way) and now you've got me fired up to where I may order one of these little babies for my 10-dayer at the end of October. Was considering loading it up w/ 60 lb. JBH and a 25' Seaguar 40 lb. wind-on matched with a Calstar GFR 700MH (or would a 700 M be better) for offshore flylined bait. Seems like a light, good casting, yet powerful package. What do you think?

The 700M is my favorite for 30-40# line. The 700MH is probably rated for 30-60# line. I've never seen a 700MH?

THe GF 700MH is rate 25-60#, I like it better than the 700M. Your Raptor with the Phenix 809HXF is a great set up! Lots of power.
