It's like the poor man's MC. I never use it...

If you adjust the drag knob for "a little friction" in the bait setting for casting or anti-backlash effects, your overall drag potential drops drastically. All of my Avets except for the EXW 4/02 didn't make the advertised drag potential. When I tried to dial in the bait postion, I lost a third or more of the drag curve. It's kind of a joke.

I too was confused by the Freespool and Bait settings. I played around with my Avets and found the following results.
MXL5.8 with freespool in Bait-
10#'s at Strike and 17 at Full
MXL5.8 with freespool in Freespool-
3 at Bait, 14 at Strike and 24 at Full
LX4.6 with Freespool in Bait-
8 at Strike and 12 at Full
LX4.6 with Freespool in Freespool-
5 at Bait, 21 at Strike and 30 at Full
Pro EXW50/2 with Freespool in Bait-
15 at Strike and 25 at Full
Pro EXW50/2 with Freespool in Freespool-
51 at Strike and 58 at Full
So only the MX has the stated drag with freespool in the Bait setting. The other two need the little knob/dial turned up to get to their stated drag, but then no freespool in the Bait setting. The other interesting thing is the MX has no range in the drag. It is either 0 and then whatever I have it set to at Strike and Full. The LX and 50 have a gradual ramp up of drag in between settings. The LX had the female cam recently replaced by Avet. Oh, and the handles on all reels turn easily and the drag lever moves easily (but with some resistance at the higher drag settings) even when drags are set to the max. After all this testing I had to change around which rods I have these reels on (well the 50 stays on the custom Calstar GF410XH).
