praise for the mxj 5.8

Took my new reel out for a spin today. The reel simply rocks. I have problems with casting conventionals and the mxj was by far and away the best casting conventional I've ever used. Quite frankly, I don't understand the need for the MC variant. I have an older model jx 4.1 and it seems un-evolved in comparison to the new mxj 5.8. Was able to cast iron, jigs, and a hydro magnum yozuri without a hitch... except for some burning of the thumb it was an excellent introduction to the casting ability of my new reel. Can't wait til the morning when I'm going to go and pull on some of the local bonita and kings to see how well the drag works. Lastly, I don't see a need for a higher gear ratio than 5.8... it was plenty fast on the retrieve. In fact, avet needs to make a 5.2:1 single speed mxj and that would be the bees knees.

I agree...I don't see any need for MC once you have 'educated' your thumb. You can reduce line burn by keeping your line wet. If you pull your rod from the rod holder to cast it you should wet the spool with a couple handfulls of water...
