need help with avet jx 4.1:1 (no free spool ability)

Well, I've taken it apart and put it back together 4 times. Still can not figure out what is causing the reel not to free spool. The odd thing is that when the reel is partially assembled the spool will spin like it was new. When I tighten down the knob near the lever is when the reel stops having the ability to freespool (the reel completely put together and no knob will freespool like crazy). I looked at the small spring inside and it looks deformed. Could this be the cause?

Pics of the spring?? I'm thinking the drag cam is not installed properly... If it spins when partially assembled, the bearings are ok...

I don't have the camera set up right now; but I can tell you the spring is not uniform in that it looks almost like a tornado with the top and bottom being exponentially different. Yes, the bearings are perfect

fixed it by replacing the spring with a cheap pen spring. It involved tweaking it a few times with nail clippers; but, the thing freespools like it was new... and it seems to have more drag some now. all in all, I'm surprised a little spring can completely screw up freespool capability.

order new spring from avet. I am sure it is only a couple bucks or less. Besides the spring you used may not be corossion proof
