Hey to all you Avet owners. I have a quick question on the Avet mxj with magnetic cast. I am not that experienced with fishing live bait on conventional reels, but am going on a 1.5 day on the Ultra in August and was wondering if this would be worth the investment.

MC with live bait won't be much assistance. Magnetic brakes a intended for higher spool speeds associated with throwing big lures or surf fishing with a lot of lead. A couple hours over a few weekends with a normal MXJ and you can learn to cast a half or three quarter oz weight to simulate a 'dine. You only want to pitch it out about 10 to 15 yards.

u mentioned the ultra trip. im sure it wont be the only trip itll go on. no need for the mc feature if using live bait only. if its gonna be used as a "secret double agent", you may want to consider the mc cast feature, if you dont feel comfortable with your thumb. that would be the easy way out. or you could just get a non mc cast version, go to the park and practice, till you get comfortable with your thumb. all depends on your level of thumb education.

if you go to the park to practice, make sure you bring a bottle of water....i burnt my thumbs a few times because i forget to wet my spool before casting.
