How much Mono on a MXL?

I seached for hours trying to find this info, but I can't find anything.

Does anyone know how many yards of straight 30# mono an Avet MXL will hold?

All I can find is 360 yards of 20#, I'm hoping it could hold close to 275 of 30#.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Dave

You'd get about ~240 yards. Use the line calculator at Accurates website: Line Calculation

20lb mono has diameter of .018 and 30lb mono has .022

Consider spectra backing!

Thanks James, thats a handy calculator.

240 yards seems on the short side.
The reel is for a friend of mine and I would be concerned about her cutting herself with spectra, she would rather use just straight mono.

I thought the MXL would be a good size for her, she's got very small hands. The JX might be a tad too big.

She's been using a jigmaster that I converted with accturate sideplates, frame, and stainless gear sleave. It's been working very well for her but I think she could use a better drag and maybe a MC.

The MXL seems a little small and the JX a little big.

Thanks James,
Dave

It will hold 300 yds of 30#...maybe 290. Plenty for local stuff.

The JX is narrower than, but about the same diameter as a penn 500 (jigmaster).

You think so Kevan?
I think I get around 300 yards on her jigmaster, maybe it gets down to 275 after stripping line and retying a lot.
Like I said, I would be fine if the MXL could hold close to 275 of 30#

As for the JX, I thought it was larger (diameter) than a jigmaster?
Would that make the LX the same size as a Jigmaster (3/0)?

I hope that question doesn't sound stupid, I live on the island and only get overtown a couple times a year. Otherwise I would just go to a tackle store and look at them .

The frame on my model of JX (6/3 non MC with newer handle) is 3 inches in diameter and about 2 5/8 inches wide (excluding the gearbox and handle).

The frame on my stock penn 500 is 3 inches in diameter and is 3 1/8 inches wide (excluding the handle, gearbox and spool tensioner).

Here's a picture of them side by side:

Wow. thank you very much for doing that Charles, really apprechiate it.
I really thought it would be bigger, but thats the same size and the narrow spool will be easier for her and for an ounce or 2 more than the jigmaster she gets a two speed and lever drag.

Thank you very much for your help,
Dave

The Jigmaster makes about 12 - 14 pounds of drag without completely bottoming it out. An MXL makes about the same before too much pressure is put on the pinion bearing. My MXL has 350yds of 50# spectra and approximately 75 yds of 30# mono topshot.

I think you'll be fine as far as capacity goes. The MXL was made to fish 30# line with full mono spools. I think the odds are very small that she'll get spooled. Good luck.
