LX8.0

Hi guys,

I just did a little horse trading and ended up with an Avet LX 8.0x1 reel. I had never even heard of a reel with this high a speed. Looking at Charkbait's site I don't see any Avets faster than 6.0x1. So, my question is, is this something that was discontinued? What would you use a reel with 8x1 retrieve for?

Yes it is an olddddddd model...

Comparable reel would be a Accurate 665 6:1

The 8:0.1 was made for high speed wahoo fishing.

Wahoo bomb or yoyo. It would be cool if they made a 8/3 two speed.

The very earliest LX's had suspect anti-reverses, especially the 6 to 1 and 8 to 1 versions. Many also shipped with bad bearings. And the side load issue was there from the start. That said, I'd love and LX 8, and if I had one, I'd put in a a heavier dog spring, clean and lube the bearings, fish it with nothing heavier than 30#-- and have a ball!

It had a planetary gear drive to get the high ratio. It pulls a lure through the water like nothing else. You just won't have any torque to reel a fish in once you hook up.
