I saw an Avet guy working on a birdsnest at the LB FHS. I told him he wouldn't have that problem with a magged reel and he just smiled.
Magging helps reduce the chances of a backlash, it doesn't guarantee that you won't get one.

At the casting lagoon, I was talking to one of the Avet reps there and told them I would buy one as soon as they could find a way to "turn off" the mags all together. His response was that at setting 1 they do not do anything. I respectfully disagreed and told him that the freespool is not the same as a standard series. As he continued to argue with me that they both should freespool exactly the same, I thougt to myself, "This is why I am not a salesperson"......Don't know if the MC would cause an issue with actually tiring out a bait....I pull line off the reel manually on all reels I use to help the little guys get bit anyway.

Have to also agree with the thumbucation but Avet's are not the easiest. Having no spool shoulder, one has to thumb the line....and we all know what happens when you stop the top couple layers or so with that Avet freespool continuing to motor on beneath....UGLY

Old school is better for bait,,,period.
Just practice and be careful casting into the wind, or as i like to do cast out horzontally to the wind but be jentle, and let the drift do all the work.

Thanks for your input everyone. Weighed the pros and cons of both the MC and non-MC and decided to just go with the MC. I don't mind losing slightly on the casting distance and feeding line to the bait, if even necessary. I cannot stand bird nesting esp when the bite is wide open, and I hate pulling one out.
Purchased 4 of them today in the Gold color.

All 2 Speeds.
Thanks Steve and the rest of the crew @ Baja Fish Gear
You definitely deserved my business after all the questions you helped me out with.

I tried out a DC cast Calcutta same shit as an MC cast and compared it to my standard calcutta I found that it was far easier to cast Lures with the DC then the standard BUT when it came to the fly line it was different, I got less distance with the DC then I did the standard, I think had i a lighter line maybe it would have been ok but now that puts me in a position to lose more fish. My opinion is stick with the standard shit.

I just bought an LX MC and fished it for 6 days in Baja. I backlashed a couple times (although oddly enough not until the 4th day or so) but the MC helps a lot with that. There was a lot of wind some of the time and the MC was especially useful at those times. At setting 1 the free spool is very good.
