I have a 900xl also. I put an MXJ on it. same drag as the sx, but the MXJ holds more line. I have straight 20 izor mono it.

I was planning on putting 25lb line on this setup to use when the Yellowtail and Albie start to bite, the rod is rated 10-25#. Was always told that i should never max the rod out with 25# line, but was never told why. Can anyone here let me know.

MXJ with 50# spectra and seagard fluorocarb leader. I caught so many calicos last year and the occasional barricuda. That seagard stuff is some strong S**T.

depends on the rod. some are rated for the bottom of the spectrum like freshwater bass rods rated from 8 to 25 pound but break in half fishing 17 pound. then there are some that are rated at the top end of the line rating.

most rods are rated middle to high in the line class.

you arent gonna be putting 25 pounds of pressure on a local Yellowtail, so you should be fine fishing 25
