Hi All, well Im getting my gear ready for our upcoming fishing season. So that mean time for fresh line. As I recall the HXW holds about 350 yrds of 50# mono. Any one have any Idea about the Cap of 65# or 100# braid??? Any help would be very helpful, so I can make sure to order the right amount of line for all my reels. Got to get braid for my LX(thinking 65#), HXW and 2 new SX reels(50# braid is the plan) and a few other salmon reels too. So it makes sense to try to figure it out first and then order what I need....
I wouldn't go less that 80# on the HX. HXW especially. You're gonna have a butt load of 65 on there. 65# on a HXW would probably be over 700yds.
HX 80# prolly close to 400yds
HXW 100# 400+ yards
LX 80# 400+yards
SX 50# prolly close to 300yds
unless of course you need less drag in the water or something.
You are going to want to fish top shots of UP TO 80# mono/fluoro on the HXW right? 80# mono typically breaks over 100 lbs +. I would personally put 100# on the HXW so you don't have to worry as much about failure in the spectra rather than top shot. Hate to lose bunch of money worth of braid rather than 25 ft of mono/fluoro.
Thanks for the info. Yah I think 100# is the min for the HXW. I was thinking about that later, and figured, I had plenty of room so the 100# would make more sense. Thanks for the input!!!!!!!
Think the SX will all get 50# and the LX will get 80#, so I can use it for Halibuts and lings too if I want to use a lighter rod for more action and fun.
I have 465 yds of JB 100 on a regular HX, unless the shop lied about it . Apparently 80 and 100lb JB have virtually the same diameter, so might as well use 100 if that is your brand.
I have a couple of the standard HX Avets and I think I spooled about 400 yards of 80 lb. Power Pro on them. Sometimes I will put about 15' of 50 lb. momo leader on them when I am drifting/jigging for lings and halibut. I have about 300 yards of the same line on the 2 speed LX Avet's. The LX's are on a couple of those limber 5' 8" Shimano jig rods that are rsted for up to about 12 oz. jigs max. I have never had much use for a bunch of top shot for bottom fishing in Prince William Sound, Cook Inlet or the Gulf of Alaska.
