Penn 500? WTF are you talkin about Kyle? Don't you have a deck to scrub?

Go away young boy. Avet starts with an "a" Penn starts with a "p".

im talking about i think cast control is silly for conventional reel, i used a penn 500 as an example...thats just me...shit delete my 2 cents for all i care.

hey i hear accurate is coming out with a tool to tie your knots and it will even wind the fish in for you.

sorry, only red this just now.

@TROB .... I placed my mags even closer to the outer perimiter of the spool, that way they have more effect and are way clear of the ratched wheel (you seem quite tight, in that respect)

@all ... Since I am no friend of doing permanent glue work on customer reels, I use UHU Power Strips (a double sidedelastic stick-on thingy) ... If the surfaces are fat free they hold the magnets well enough for testing and beyond - in 3 years I have not heard of a magnet falling off.

It' quicker than epoxy and the likes and completely reversible.

jx 4.6, jx 6/3

Magged one of my jx 6/3's and my kayak JX 4.6 today and went to the park. I wanted to test the mags on bait rigs and light weights to see if it would make that big of a difference. i was also was testing to see if i could get any more distance on my bait toss.

I took another 6/3 that was un-magged so i can compare. I put (2) 1/4" mags in the single speed, and (2) 3/8" mags in the 6/3.

started with the un-magged 6/3 and pitched a few about 25-30 yards and did some "grenade tosses" to about the same distance. Honestly, it wasnt bad but i did get a few nests. Not really enough to warrant the mags but i already had them installed and it couldn't hurt, right?

So i grabbed my other 6/3 with the 3/8" mags and gave it a few tosses. It was a veeerry SLIGHT difference in spool speed. But I could tell there wasnt as much loose line. On all of my tests today i was using less thumb control than normal so i could almost take the human element out of it.

Same deal with the single speed and 1/4" mags.

The mags were hardly worth it in a bait situation, but i had extra magnets so i figured, why not. it would help ever so slightly if you suck at casting, but if you know how to decently use your thumb, don't even bother with the bait rigs.

FYI i was using 1 and 1.5oz weights.

Next up is my new jx that will be matched to a 90J, i'll be chuckin' irons in the park . let you know how it goes.

I think there are too many factors to rule out the mags not working for live bait reels. How close are the mags to the spools? Can you get them closer? What about adding washers under them? washers move the mags closer to the spool, and increase the power of the mags.

I bet if you added a couple washers under your mags, you would notice the difference you were looking for. The mags do work for reels that are to be used for live bait if installed properly...

Not to hi jack this thread, but nobody relly answered in my other thread. I suck at throwing my jx 2 speed with bait. what would be the correct magnets to use for live bait so i don't get massive backlashes? I read that the mags don't work well under 2oz of weight.

yea, i thought of that.

Should i just try stainless washers? i really want it to work.

what about just adding a third mag instead of a washer

Try either one. Make sure you use stainless if you are using washers. Also, ditch the epoxy. One drop of superglue is all you need...
