saw someone at the banquet today with a 30w or sumtin. Saw him trying to reel it and it was pretty stiff. guess its a norm.

i dont belive it to be the norm at all .
this is the first issue ive had. all my reels function great
i guess i had to vent and attempt to fish for a solution prior to tearing it down for service.
just chaps me that not even 1 year in and this.
but it is a item that i man made with many man made things inside
hell my brand new Vette rear diff went and my F350 killed 3 injectors

i will say that they are little tanks that can put down some drag ive popped 30+ dolphin on the little SX with no problems
and no i wont be getting rid of my Avets especially for internationals

i favor MADE IN THE USA!!!!

thanks for the replies and ill check the bearings

tight lines and sharp hooks !!

I just favor a well made product by a company willing to support it. I can care less where it's made. Avet reels are well made and have clearly proven themselves out on the water time and time again but that doesn't mean that an occasional dud doesn't come out of there plant. Happens to every company. From what I've been reading, looks like Avet is pretty good at standing behind their product so contact them with your issue.

if you crank the handle and the gears feel a little rough, then you probably had the main and pinion gear jam up. i would send this one back to avet. they will probably find damage to both gears. if that is the case, both gears will have to be replaced. can you let us know how this works out? thanks! alan
