Well here is the story,
Took the kids and family over for a vacation in Kona. Chartered the Krista, Capt. was Dennis Cintas out of Honokohau Harbor, Hi for a kids trip. We got our first Hook up with a nice ono 5 mins after lines in My daughter whom is only 8 made short work of it on the 130, trolled around for a awile and found some aku so broke out the light gear, we get bit almost instantly , so my son Zach gets in the chair, yea I know for an Aku... he is only 3. It was on my new custom wrapped rod with my Avet LX, it is spooled with 60lb JB spectra with a 60lb top shot... So here goes the best part. First the aku my wife is bringing in gets farmed by a hungry porpise.... dohh... Then shortly after I'm helping Zach hold the rod when it gets bumped and line starts screaming off.... I though another porpise grabbed the small tuna but then a Marlin comes busting out the water... So I button down on the drag and get ready for the fight of a lifetime.... but after a couple of runs the hook straightens and it comes off...The whole time my son is the calm one just watching line peel of the reel. We caught some more aku and live baited for the marlin but nada and then on the ride in my daughter kills another ono. In by 1130 am. A great day on the water for the kids...

Location of fish caught: Hurricane Bank// Offshore Banks of Clarion Island
Gear used:Ex50 SDS and 30W
Date:6/4/08-6/11/08

The first day at hurricane bank held hungry wahoo. i trolled a 30W with 100lb test and a red and black marauder. this reel was on a super seeker 6463XXXh. their was a hookup thhat wasnt on my marauder, so i reeled in the jig right next to the boat as the boat was turning and a wahoo came up from underneath and attacked my marauder. as it ran i saw it jump straight up in the air like a torpeedo with my marauder in its mouth. he weighed out at 42.6 lbs at the dock scale. this wahoo cracked my brand new marauder.

june-avet-contest-fishing-012.jpg

the rest of the trip was at Clarion Island. the main setup i used was a SDS on a super seeker 6463xxxh. 135lb spectra with 150lb blackwater florercarbon topshot. i fished a 5/0 super mutu and a 1.5 ounce sliding sinker with a toothpick holding it up. i only fished sardine as bait.

i caught 8 yellowfin and 7 of the 8 were caught on this rig.
my first yellowwfin weighed 135lb hooked up at 6 am and it hit the deck at around 7. first fish of the morning he was my personal best.

june-avet-contest-fishing-025.jpg

couple days after i caught this 155lber on the same rig. this fish was my new personal best... for now. the fight last an hour 20. look in the right corner of the picture wher i am holding up the fish.. u can see the butt of the super seeker with the red foam stuff. haha beleive me that is the same setup as in the picture of me fighting the fish.

june-avet-contest-fishing-028.jpg

i hooked up a fish on the SDS and got spooled. their was no way of stopping this fish. they put the backup onto my reel and threw my rig right into the water. the reel was probably sumberged in the water for about 20 minutes. when i got the rig back in the skiff the line was slack and their was no fish. right when i got back onto the boat i was pissed! the next stop i was determined to catch a big fish. i used the same rig that was thrown in the water and hooked a tuna. the fight lasted an hour and 45 minutes. the drags were not jerky and i brought the fish in fine making it my new personal best at 185.6lbs. it worked the same way that it worked right when i bought it. this reel was by far my favorite reel to fish with.

this fish was also caught after it was thrown into the water and it worked absolutely perfect! the people who got the first and second place jackpot both hooked up with their jackpot fish right next to me! and i hooked up at the same time as them. my fish didnt turn out as big as their 284 and 286..

Yep, I'd post a pic but Marcus would just DQ it. Yep, Marcus is a hater.

I think he secretly works for PETA and feeds seals on the weekend.

Weeknights too if he get's off early....

45lb Tresher on the light tackle....

45lb Thresher on MXJ 5.8:1.0 w/ 20lb P-line........30 minute battle on my calico stick!

june-avet-contest-threaser-062208.jpg

Catch: 45lb Thresher Shark (on my bass rod)
Angler: Matt Harbour
Date: Sunday, June 22
Reel: MXJ 5.8:1.0 w/ 20lb P-line
Rod: Saber 270 - Custom Wrapped by "Bob's Sporting Goods"
Boat: 55' "Aquarious" of Malibu Sportfishing (from Pier) - 1/2 day 6-pak charter
Location: Malibu Coast

Story: Plan was to fish Calicos in the weeds of Malibu. On our way North to our first spot of the day, Capt Forest calls out "Free jumper" and to be ready to drop some baits back. At this point, I had no idea what species of fish so I grabbed my bass rod and pinned on a nice dean. I was the first bait in the water and as my dean slide back, I got racked ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. On the first run, the fish came completely out of the water on two seperate occasions. Given that I was hooked up with my bass rod on 20lb mono, I could only put so much pressure on the fish. The fish dragged me around the boat for 30 minutes and went verticle a couple of times before I was finally able to bring it to color. The deckhand sunk the gaff and slapped the fish on the deck. The high-speed (5.8:1.0) MXJ performed flawlessly on the little brut......so smoooooooth and powerful. Later that night, we got some good eats on the BBQ.
