6/2 Another Flattipus on the SX

Fished La Jolla (6/2/08) in the morning with good water movement on the tide and good conditions but the fishing was rather slow. Finished the day with 2 halibut at 12 and 9lbs. This one was caught on an Avet SX6 and custom Calstar 700XXL with a 'dine pinned to a Carolina rig on 15 lb Sea Striker mono.

I vote for Riceman on the June Heat trip. Good fishing JEFF! Why would anyone buy any other reel? I want to thank you again for the MXJ that you sent me from the April contest. Here is a link to my Panama post showing off the results of the effort: http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/co...ge-report.html (Paradise Lodge Report)

Here is a teaser pic when the decks ran red with tuna blood:

Took the boys fishing on Father's Day weekend. We went up to Ventura Pier. They had a great time as they caught lots of fish, albeit little ones - they gotta start somewhere, before they really bloody up the decks.

Very slow day at N/W La Jolla for surface action. Dropped to the bottom with frozen squid for some fish taco's. Caught this toad Stary in 180ft. on 20lb big game wrapped on my MXL and custom wrapped seeker rod. Not the biggest fish in the contest, but definately a toad Stary.

My father and I went sharking on 6/25 40 miles south of Long Island New York. With 4 Avet 30W's in the water we hooked up with what we thought was a nice fish until 1hr later when we got the first look at it and she was huge!!! 3 1/2 hours later after 2 gaffs and 2 tail ropes she was tied up next to our 24 ft Hydra-Sports CC. After 5 1/2 hrs in tow we reached the dock at 8:30 pm. Once up on the scale she weighed in at 480lbs and was 16ft in total lenght. Reel was loaded with 135lb Izorline with a 25 ft. 400lb. wind-on by Basil . Total time on the rod was 4 hr 15 min. Fish of a lifetime on Stogie 2.

Gear used: SX on a seeker 808 with 15# mono
Date: 6/23/8

After more than 2 days of driving on our 8 day and little to show for it, we ended up at the Thetis bank east of Alijos. The yellows were biting everything and were mostly in the 15-30lb class. After filling my sack with some nice fish in the 20-30lb class I started fishing the 15# gear for some awesome C&R on the flylined bait. The lighter line was more of a finesse fight, especially with a rail full of other guys hooked up on fish.

I caught several like this (and a few larger) that we sent back to get bigger but I kept this one as he was the last fish I caught before we pulled the hook and headed to Alijos.

Loreto Dorado

Location: Loreto, BCS (very hot!)
Gear: Avet HX two-speed, 40# P-Line, 7/0 hook, mackerel
Date: June 23-25

Fished three days June 23,24,25 in Loreto, BCS with two friends and caught 18 Dorado with only two under 25#'s (released). The largest went 51#'s most were from 30-45#'s. Brought two HX's brand new loaded with 40# P-Line. The two speed sure helped when those bulls did their death spiral under the boat for 30 minutes, just throw it in low and crank! Huge advantage over a single speed! Those Dorado take off just as fast as a wahoo when they first strike the mackerel, reels performed beautifully in the intense heat and long runs.

Decided to take a vaca day from work to go bassin' with my buddy Ed on his Young Gull.

AM started early by castnetting bunker in Atlantic Highlands NJ.
Loaded up in 1 throw and we were off to the ocean to find the bass.
Turned the hook and started to run south.

Found small school of fish boiling on the surface and my buddy Ed proceeds to boat 1 on a live bunker.

Not a runoff for me.

Fish went down ad we made some moves trying to locate more fish.

Towards end of day we found MASSIVE schools of bunker on the beach being worked by some bass.
Ed boats another!

I FINALLY get a runoff and set up on her.
Took me around boat 2xs, but SX/GUSA combo made short work of the 22lb bass.

Interesting when we cut it up after the trip.

1 Whole bunker in her belly, undigested. Another bunker (2/3rds) in her belly. Bluefish took a bite out of the back of bunker and she took advantage of it.
The bunker I caught it on looks like it had it's tail bitten off by a bluefish and she took advantage of that as well.
Would be her last time doing that tho

Finally got a bass on my my Avet SX which is what I bought it for!

Nothing but bruiser blues on it before that.

EastCape Tuna and Durado

Here are my submissions for the Avet monthly contest.

I fished the East Cape june 15 thru 20th with family members from Mobile Alabama.
This was their first trip to the region. We stayed at Palmas De Cortez.
the weather was in the 90's with fairly low humidity.
After two days of scratch fishing in nice warm blue water.
We, (my uncle Harlod and his wife) nail some school yellow fin (her first) and a forty eight (48lb) DO-do for my uncle.

My Uncle loved the LX and was very impressed with the weight and fishing power of the SX. We all commented that these are not you average zebco's.

Many tuna were caught with the SX 5.3 single speed loaded with 50lb spectra and a short top shot of 25lb p-line. (the LIL slayer)

the Dodo was nailed on my AVET LX single speed with the calstar rod. Line was Suffix 30lb.

Great trip that brought home a freezer full of tuna and Durado.

I love my Avet Reels!.

This trio of Yellowtail from 24-32# was caught next to one of the long range boats. Who says you have to spend $2k to fish big Yellowtail in baja on a long range boat when you can paddle up right next to them . We didn't have a cook though.
