When it arrived at the purchasers home he claimed he could set the drag in any position he wanted and adjust the preset tight and the spool would not engage when turning the handle. I looked at the Alan Tani teardown - and short of the gears disintergrating, not sure what could cause this. He is returning it - any ideas? |

It's my understanding that this is a big no no. Always adjust the preset knob with the drag all the way off. If I remember right, inside damage will happen if done. Don't remember to what part. There have been past threads on this. |

My point was that he could tighten the preset adjustment tight and when he angaged the drag the spool would still not turn when the handle was turned. I was hoping there were a few simple explanations for what it might be as it must have occurred in shipping. I will be tearing down the reel when it comes back, if not simple then it goes to Avet |

Sounds like he unpacked it, pushed the drag all the way, tighted that knob down tight and tried to turn the handle like hell without knowing any better. Now, he's damaged it and sending it back to you. That sucks! Once it's fixed, make sure and tell the next buyer what not to do.
That's the first thing I tell anyone on the boat that touches my Avets. |

He bought two and said one works fine and he is keeping it. Sounds like nobody feels shipping could have jolted or vibrated anything loose. How much damage can really be done if he didn't adjust the preset in freespool? |

Name: Todd Vessel: 22 Ft Pursuit, Twin Yam130's Location: St. Augustine, FL Job:Sales | Got the reel back today Got the reel in the mail today. The pin is sheared off the clicker, and one of the anti-reverse dogs was off. Nothing wrong on the business end of the reel. I can't figure out how the pin sheared unless he took pliers to the clicker knob and turned it. Is it easy to replace the pin? |
