Regarding PM-
I assumed since there was current activity that was a valid question.
Did not notice dates.

I know this is an old thread but...
You can leave the pin sheared off and replace the set screw in the clicker knob with a 4-40x3/8 stainless screw and have a fully manual clicker. I did this to all my 4/02's and it works great. You will need a 1mm hex wrench to get the set screw out.

On how this happens- the only way it could have accidentally happened IMO is if the clicker was on, and someone gave the handle a very hard spin. One of my 4/02's had the pin get bent doing this and ultimately would get stuck with the clicker on and the clicker disengaging pin binding the reel instead of getting knocked around to cut the clicker off. I opened the reel and broke the pin off. When the small knob didn't give me enough leverage to cut the clicker on and off after that, I took the set screw out and replaced it with a 3/8" stainless screw and got a traditional manual clicker out of the ordeal. You could do the same, and many guys may prefer your reel that way.

Wow...I know this is an old thread, but when I saw it just now, I thought it was the reel I repaired today..until I saw that Todd mentioned his was red, this one happened to be a silver 4/02. The customer came in to the factory with a reel he "purchased brand new in the box" on ebay. The reel was definitely not brand new as he was lead to believe, but had seen some significant use as evidenced by the salt buildup around the screws and dirty grease inside. The customer couldnt get the spool to crank, no mater what drag setting he tried. The issue with this particular reel was in the shift lever. The shift lever cover plate was removed and re-assembled with the small spring somehow mashed under the release lever. When the cover was re assembled and tightened down, it bent the lever causing the shift button to bind between hi and lo gear...in "neutral" so-to-speak...handle just cranks without engaging the spool. This wasnt caused by shipping obviously.
My reason for posting this isnt to bash or spook anyone from buying on ebay, there are still plenty of honest people selling stuff there, but simply to give a heads up for something to watch for when dis-assembling and re-assembling the shifter mechanism when doing maintenance.
BTW, I know Todd (twh7633) personally, and is as stand-up of a guy as they come..no worries about buyin stuff from him.

Was surprised to find this thread revived. As stated, I replaced the clicker mechanism that Avet supplied me and sold the reel to Marlyn. Still don't know what the guy did to break it - but you have to eat it once in awhile to save your EBay feedback rating.
By the way, I replaced the red 4/02's with red topless Accurate ATD 12's so Charkbait loves me.

Scott - good to have you back on the boards lately and thanks for the endorsement. You seem to be enjoying your position with Avet. Now to get you back on the rod board - at least long enough to build me another GUSA Wahoo - the one you built me was in a friends house that burned down.
