Whoops, hit the wrong button. Anyway, received a MXJ from the wife for Christmas ana I really impressed with these reels and looking to another one. Right now my thinking is to use the MJX for 30-40 albacore and Guadelup style fishing. Thinking of adding another Avet reel for 40-60 for when the bite is not so picky or when the taxman is around. What about a JX 2 speed for this application? Also the HXJ keeps popping into the thought process, though it may be more reel than is needed. TIA, Allan

It depends on how you are going to fish. All of the J series are for jigging. For example your mxj is is primarily made for jigging but will work well for bait also. The standard reels mxl, lx, hx2 etc have larger/wider spools so more line capacity. The mxl and the jx will work fine for 30-40. For 40-60 I would look at the hxj or the standard hx. These reel ideal for using a spectra backing so put spectra on with a mono top shot.Be careful these reels are addictive. I started with an sx several years ago and now have six of them. Hope this helps a little.

The LX is a wide JX, I think the next step up is the HX.

The HX will probably be more what your looking for than the JX.

JX 6/3 is the perfect reel Guadelupe style fishing. Fish it with 400 yards of 65# spectra and a 4 foot topshot of 40#.
