Gear used: Avet Pro Ex40/2 (60lb mono)
Date: 5/3/2008
Trolled a BOM with a pinned live mac for 20mins and tap tap boom, tailed tresher. A few nice 100 yard runs and got him in on 60lb p-line. Drags were smooth at each run and cranking was a breeze with low gear. Great reel = freezer full of steaks.

Location: South La Jolla Canyon
Gear used: Low gear most of the time, AVET 50/2
Date: 11 May 2008
Left Mission Bay at 0700 and headed to La Jolla kelp beds to make bait. Caught plenty of Macs, and headed to the canyon (53/23 coords). Started trolling at about 4 knots with a BoM, and about 15 minutes into it, bendo.... My seeker AVET combo was doubled over. Running 150 lb spectra, and 100 lb maxima topshot. One hour and 15 minutes later, we had leader and tied her up. Towed her back to the scales and weighed in at 343 lbs... First time fishing for Thresher and first one ever caught... AVET did great! |

What the hell is that like? | yea thats the lure, i had a spanish mac color out too. I troll them at a cruising speed for the yak, but with the drag of the lures, i probably troll at around 2kt.
i havent hooked one yet on the yak so i was pretty eager. Then my cousins landed a #370er and filled my freezer. Didnt want to risk killing another one if i already had meat. so im done for the year on the yak for sharks.
yakking is the way to go, every fish means so much more knowing you did it on your own muscle. |

Was trolling a rainbow trout yozuri behind the kayak when this bluefin trevally slammed the lure. It was a killer little fight on the sx. He tried to work his way in to the reef twice, but I was able to button down and pull it out of any trouble. This is the smaller of two caught (bigger one released with no camera). The sx was great for the entire trip. |

Name: Paul Rowles Age: 62 Vessel: 25' Grady White- Lucky Lou Location: Benicia, Ca. Job:Retired | SF Bay Area Sturgeon on Avet SX Yesterday May 14 I went out to the Mothball Fleet in Susiun Bay near Benicia, CA. and fished for Sturgeon. Fished the last couple of hours of the high tide with no good bites, then the first hour of the outgo I got a good pulldown. Set the hook and my Avet SX started to scream. Using 65# Power Pro line and a Travella Rod I was able to stop the Sturgeon who was using the tide to his advantage. The real challange came when I had to net the fish solo. In the boat it measured 52" and 35#. This set up and my Avet MXL with the Trevalla rod work great on the balance beam rod holders we use to detect the light bite of the Sturgeon.

28 lbs caught off the flats near Church Rock, Too small to even count in the WON Tourney. Too small to even compare to my buddys 38 lbr. But the fish made my its way to my BBQ and the Avet was perfect. |
