Still, that is fricking nuts, hooked up to a large fish with nothing between you and the fish but a 40-50ft drop to the water. Talk about extreme. Do you guys have guys spotting you or any sort of rope just in case you slip?

Congrats and great pics.
Hi G

Yep we do get Marlin from the cliffs. I have never seen one hooked or landed but i have heard of 2-3 that were landed from steep point
I thought the sailfish was really hard to land but a marlin would be just about impossible.

That video you seen would of been the one from the eastern states of australia. Its called "marlin off the rocks"

Regards the rope...
nah no rope but if we have a kid up there we will get the rope out incase to save them but some spots are to hight for rope and the shear dropp and hit the water could kill ya in some locations.

Re: Some of my best captures

yah, but I just figured a spotter or something, to save you from going over ...that is some scary stuff though...I see in that pic of the marlin off the cliff, the guy seems to have a spotter behind him...Thought maybe if you put an anchor somewhere on the cliff, and then attach a rope to it I guess it would be safer but might limit your range of movement, unless it was like a seatbelt type of mechanism that can release rope and pull it back in (spring loaded somehow).

Anyways, maybe it isnt as scary as it sounds and not really needed, but I would think a marlin at least could pull you over. Ever get big tuna off the cliffs?

Re: Some of my best captures

Yeah , its not as scary as it looks...As long as your carefull you should be ok Iv fished this spot many times now so im use to it but still have full respect of this location.

There is allways someone along side when you hook up on a big one.
When i hooked my sailfish i had my uncle who is 130kg big hanging onto the back of my rod belt incase the drag locked up and pulled me off the cliff because i was acually harnessed up and clipped up to the rod so if i went over the edge i wouyld be getting a 1 way trip to the bottom via sailfish haha.

Yep we get alot of tuna off the cliffs as pictured below............

Re: Some of my best captures

This is the campsite at steep point. As you can see its only a 10sec walk from the tent to the cliff edge..

The camp
