Do you buy the gang hooks premanufactured....I tried experimenting with some of my hooks, to see if i could make a rig, but with the barb, the hooks would not fit through the eye, and if i crimped the barb down, it would snap off when i tried to raise it back up....

I also need to check our local regs...Gang Rigs may be illegal in CA.
It may fall under the same reg as ganion rig...no more then three hooks max..on one line, unless it's a bait rig.....

The Gang hook looks like it would work great for our local White Sea Bass...three squid on one line, right next to each other.....on a dropper rig....???

Hi Mike, yes check with you local laws first. Ours are no more than 4 hooks.

We buy them pre-manufactured but it works out cheaper to buy 5/0's or what ever size you like in a box of 50.
I use sidecuters to open up the ring enough just to thread the hook and barb through.

Then use plyers to clamp the ring shut.

Yes can break a few hooks if not carefull. Mustad hooks seem the best and strongest for gangs

We acually have a special tool designed for all this gang hook making.

I will do up a thread on gang hook making soon

Thanks for the report and pics.

Dont mean to bust your balls but can you explain these 2 quotes about 8 ganged hooks being the norm and then how the law says no more than 4????

Yep no problem, i used the 8 ganged hook set up to catch my sailfish.
That was about 15 years ago.

Now the laws have changed to 4 hooks or less .

You could still run 2 hooks up the front at the head then join the last 2 hooks by wire trace to streach the hooks out to go the length of the gardie

Re: Some of my best captures

*** STOP HOLD PRESS***

I just found out the following...........

"According to the recreational fishing guide:

The rule is three hooks or three gangs of hooks per line.

In other words a gang is treated like a hook and there is no limit on a gang."

This is the law for Western Australia

So a 8 hook gang is fine

This rig would be great for a whole gardy!

Re: Some of my best captures

Went down north mole saturday at 7.00am with a mate.
Unfortunatly its winter here at the moment

North mole was closed due to very stormy weather.
Fished a different spot not far and was really bad conditions. We both got totally drenched from the waves crashing over the rocks and pissin down raining.
To much seaweed around. Put on a small hook and caught silver beam, yellow eye muller, flathead.
Should of stayed in warm bed!
