| counting down to tuna time
Hey Guys,
I am on my way, I'll be on the South Island all of August. I am planing on being in Greymouth the 12th through the 23rd. I'll be fishing on the Oracle on the 19th. Is there any fishing other than the bluefin that I can get into while I am down there? I could also use a good recomendation on where to go snowboarding with the family. Thanks for any advice.
Jason

In greymouth there's not realy many other saltwater options, not many other boats that go over the bar apart the commercial boats and the Tuna charter boats. Plenty of world class trout fishing if your into that sort of thing, I have worked down there the last two season and caught plenty to 10lb off the back of the boat while in port and saw them caught to 17lb. some good trout fishing in the rivers and lakes aswell, and a short distance from town, Otherwise there's deer and chamios hunting, or whitebaiting.
Those boys on Orcale are a good bunch, mike the skipper's a crazy barstard but they'll look after you, you'll have a blast!

Thanks Josh I don't think I need to make any more runs over the bar but would like to spend a couple of days chasing trout.

The Bar is potentally very dangerous and has it's reputation as it has claimed a lot of lives in the past. Wouldn't worry to much about it though, skippers are very experenced with bar crossing, maximum safety precautions are taken and weather is closely watched. most trips its reasonably flat anyway. The Harbour master keeps a close watch on the conditions and will close the bar if gets big. Has never been hicup with any of Tuna charter boats.
