Most awesome report!!! If only I was half the fishing junky that I am now when I was in NZ back in 2000 (was only 18) I would have had to do some fishing there. And to think I was actually in Whittianga for several days too, staying with a manager of an adventure sports shop.....too bad the weather was shit.

One day I will make it back there.

I broke a brand new Shitamno 400 Deep Jig first day.
Piece of shit.
To go there from Aussie cost $Au2000 for everything and we had a ball
Amazing fish 5 minutes run from the wharf and Carl the guy that runs it is fricking fantastic but gets really pissed on Wild Turkey Honey burbon.
If you ever go to New Zealand fish with Epic Adventures and have a ball
I've attached a link to the stills from the trip
I'm replacing my T Curve with a custom built rod from Yee Haa in Auckland. These guys have some sweet gear (for Kiwis) at not so bad prices

awesome report and pics.my parents recently returned from 2 weeks in NZ.damn that place looked fishy in all the water photos they took.I asked them about the fishing and they didnt check on it but said fresh fish and mussels everywhere.thanks to your post I now know its as fishy as it looks.
