Looking for YFT next January

The wife and I are heading somewhere warm, she said I can go anywhere I want as long as there is an ocean, spa, and some shoping. I am looking for a best shot at yellowfin or wahoo. I don't need anything fancy, just someone who knows how to catch fish. The trip will be around the second week of January 2009. If this isn't a good time to catch the yelowfin or wahoo, I am good with whatever you guys think would be a killer trip. I have seen some good looking stuff in Tonga, anyone been, or know how it is?

Cmartin a mate and I did a trip to Tonga last year we did not get many big Tuna but it was warm and calm when we were there. I believe Dec/Jan are the months for big Yellow Fin Tuna
Check the trip report here http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/au...cks-tonga.html (Bloodydecks in Tonga) to get the feel of Vauvau anyway

Dont stay long in Tongatapu (Main Island) as I dont rate it at all.

Vanuatu is well worth considering as well

Check out Bermuda...weather can be iffy but still warm. Decent wahoo and tuna bite. See Capt. James on the Wound Up. He knows how to catch fish. Top notch operation.

Hi Chris,
Have a look at Fiji. We get a great yellowfin run over December / January. Not so many wahoo though, best time for them is June - September. I would suggest you come fish aboard Bite Me but the wife wouldn't be too happy. No spas or shops down here on Kadavu island....just rainforrest down to mangroves out to coral lagoons and barrier reef. Maybe another charterboat based on the main island of Viti Levu would keep everyone happy !

Definately hook up with James in Bermuda. I am going to be fishing with James in 3 weeks and will be providing a detailed report with a ton of pics. Stay tuned...

Chris - Bermuda's a great spot for everything you mentioned but I wouldn't recommend January.. That time of year there's a good chance the wind will be blowing and temps in the 60's....

Let's not forget Puerto Vallarta...particularly if you're talking about tuna!
