| Big Oregon Butt
We fished out of Newport and the Banana Bank was good to us. Just hit the bottom and get bit. We had just brought in number 7 (one shy of our limit of fish between 33-42 inches) and a big one came knocking. Took 30 minutes to get it up from 560 feet, and I picked the wrong day to not have the harpoon on board...
The fish went crazy when I sunk the gaff in, and then we pulled it over the side and stood back as the fish got violent. I hit it with the bat about 20 times and calmed it down.
64 inches, 115 pounds at the end of the day. That plus the other 7 butts ended up at 220 pounds of filets.
We shot outside and picked up a few albies on small swimbaits, they were jumping everywhere, but had switched over to small bait fish and wanted nothing to do with a conventional troll spread.
