| New york thresher
Just wanted to post a shot of my buddy and his brother and a sweet Thresher!!
I am just stoked for them and wanted to share it, they have been after a thresher like this for a while and finally got it!!
They were fishing out of fire island inlet in Long island New York on tuesday 6/26
here's a copy of there report:
here's a copy of there report on an east coast site..
Got a late start yesturday on my boat with Mike and Matt. Set up around 0830 35nm south of F.I. Flurries of blue dogs kept us occupied all morning. Around noon we hooked up with a fish that had some weight to it. Mike was on the rod and it didnt take much drag at all, just some dead weight. Got it close to the boat to take a look and saw a bronze beast at the end of the line. Mike was on the rod, Matt was on the leader, and I was on the wheel. Got the fish next to the boat in 5 mins and Matt held it so i could stick it with the dart. The fish didn't even budge with a dart through the gills. He came to the boat so easily, it was like it didn't even know it was hooked. Got another dart through the gills and still not even an agressive slap of its tail. Next shot stuck it with the flyer....and the fish woke up. Matt and Mike were ducking under to gunnel for protection as the fish was thrashing and shooting water all over. Dragged it backwards for 20 mins untill we could get a tail rope on it. Dragged it for another 40 mins unitill it finally gave up. Next was trying to get the fish in the boat. 3 guys, no gin pole, no tuna door, no block and tackle, no fun. Spent 1.5 hrs trying every which way to leverage the fish into the boat. No luck. Some how we came up with the idea of using the come-along rachet strap that we use for securing my fishing box to try to get the fish in the boat. Hooked one end up the cleet on the port side and on end to the tail on the starboard side. Inch by inch we gained on the fish untill finally we had it in the boat. Boat took a little longer to plane as we headed home to weigh the fish in. Put it on the scale at BFS. We were guessing mid 300s...but the scale proved different. 446 was the final score for the day. The fish of a life time. Great trip, great crew, great fish, great story.
