Smile New Zealand fishing-West Coast

Hey im new to this forum and i decided to tell a few of you people about the West Coast fishing in NZ (north island). Some great fish are caught out there, striped marlin, big snapper, and many other fish. Also there is great habour fishing were you get a very large selection of fish, including shell fish like scallops, mussels(green lipped) ans oysters.

Re: New Zealand fishing-West Coast

Hows it going everyone.
I am from New Zealand also and am interested in peoples thought s on braid to mono connection knots. I am setting up a reel to target a landbased marlin and am topshotting about 400m of 80 pound mono on top of 1000m of 80 pound braid. I have heard of the sato crimp system and just wanted comments on it and any connection knots that you suggest.
Also wondering what would be the best site to display this on

Thanks

Andrew

Talking gisborne trip

I went down to gisborne for a week to visit some frends down there......So my dad his mate and i went fishing the next day (20th) at the gisborne river mouth (cant remember the exact name of it) so we took down a few rods and some lures hoping to catch a few fish but after about 2hrs nothing turned up so we went back....Then on the (23rd we went to Tologa bay to see wat turned up there (usually a good spot ive heard) and as we were walking down the warf we saw a lot of sprats jumping so we put out a lure hoping to hook up with a kahawai but nothing there so we went to the end and after about 30 minutes we werent getting any thing so i went to were we saw the ssprats and i put down a few hooks for some livies and i was getting plenty until the rod started bending quite a bit then the string started going then it flung bak straight so i decided to look over the side to see wat it was and it was only a bout 1 and a half meters deep-2 meters wen i saw an eagle ray (bat ray) at an est. of a bout 4kg(8 pnd so i wen to the end to tell my dad then i saw an amaizing sight..............3 BIG kingies showed up ranging from 5kg (10lb) to 15Kg (30lb) so i got a bigger rod and put on a squid about 15-25 cm long on a 7/0 hook and the little kingi went right up to it was about to take it and then it swam away and nothing else went for the squid so dad put out a lure and all three of them at different times went for it but no hook ups so i thought after a while "where's the shot gun wen u need it most?"Death_To_ .......But even though we didnt get any thing it was still exciting............oh and it was the closest to catching a kingi EVA!!!!!!
